Riau Police Chief Presides Over Promotion Ceremony for Two Officers, Commends Selfless Dedication
The Riau Regional Police (Polda Riau) held a promotion ceremony for two personnel. The Chief of Riau Police, Inspector General Pol Herry Heryawan, who led the ceremony, expressed his gratitude for the selfless dedication of the two personnel.
“We, all personnel of Polda Riau, congratulate our personnel, Kompol Afrison and Kompol Saurtua Sihaloho, for the selfless dedication they have shown during their service at Polda Riau, especially at the Pekanbaru Police,” said Inspector General Herry Heryawan at the Riau Police Headquarters, Wednesday (24 February 2026).
The two personnel who received a promotion, moving up one rank from Assistant Commissioner of Police (AKP) to Commissioner of Police (Kompol), are Kompol Aprison (Head of the Identification Unit, Directorate of General Criminal Investigation, Polda Riau) and Kompol Saurtua Sihaloho (Head of the Community Security Unit, Senapelan Police Precinct, Pekanbaru Police).
Inspector General Pol Herry Heryawan emphasised that a merit-based promotion is not just a routine right, but a special recognition from the National Police institution for personnel who are considered to have an impeccable track record and high dedication, especially as they approach retirement.
In his address, the Chief of Police gave serious consideration to the dynamics concerning the National Police in recent times. Drawing lessons from several incidents involving members in other regions, Inspector General Herry affirmed that the main asset of the National Police in carrying out its duties is public support and sympathy.
“I need to reiterate that our weapon now is the trust and sympathy of the community. To gain that, continue to do good deeds,” he said.
Inspector General Herry reminded all personnel to continue to uphold the primary duties of the National Police as protectors and guardians of the community. He also emphasised that all personnel must maintain the dignity of the National Police institution.
“Instil in our hearts our motto: to protect, to serve, and to maintain the dignity of the institution, as well as to preserve its image and identity, both personally, as a unit, and as an organisation,” said the two-star general.
Before concluding his speech, the Chief of Police reminded all personnel to stay away from drugs. He asked them to eliminate the ‘deviant’ approach under the pretext of undercover drug operations.
“I reiterate, there should never be any members using drugs, for any reason. There is no longer any excuse for undercover operations or deviant approaches,” he said.
He asked personnel to carry out their duties professionally, firmly but humanely. In this digital era, the Chief of Police reminded all personnel to be ‘camera-aware’.
“Carry out your duties professionally, obey the rules, and pay attention to the measured and humane use of force. We live in the age of social media, where every action can be recorded and disseminated,” he concluded.
At the end of the ceremony, the Chief of Police presented a tree to each of the two personnel who were promoted. The giving of the tree is a symbol of strengthening Green Policing in the Land of Lancang Kuning.
