Riau Police Chief Issues Stern Warning to Personnel: No Compromise on Drugs
Riau Police Chief Irjen Pol Herry Heryawan provided guidance to his subordinates regarding drug abuse. The two-star general also issued a stern warning to all personnel not to “mess around” with drugs.
This direction from the Riau Police Chief was delivered during a briefing titled ‘Sense of Crisis and Adaptive Policing Strategy in Facing Economic Uncertainty and Public Security Dynamics’ at Siak Police Resort on Tuesday (21/4/2026). The event was attended by several main officials (PJU) from Polda Riau and Siak Police Chief AKBP Sepuh Ade Syam Siregar.
In his address, Irjen Pol Herry Heryawan conveyed a firm commitment by emphasising the zero tolerance principle towards drugs, including against Polri members themselves.
“There is no compromise on drugs. I warn you, do not let any member get involved,” stated Irjen Herry Heryawan, quoted on Wednesday (22/4/2026).
He stressed the importance of handling from upstream to downstream involving all elements. Preemptive and preventive efforts at the upstream level to repressive measures downstream.
“Handling must start from upstream through preemptive and preventive steps, including involving families and communities as part of a joint movement,” he asserted.
The Akpol 96 graduate general highlighted the importance of the collaborative role of all components of the nation, from law enforcement apparatus, local government, to educational institutions, in fortifying the younger generation from the dangers of drugs.
“Drugs are our common enemy. If prevention is not carried out collaboratively, both downstream in law enforcement and upstream with the role of local government, NGOs, all related stakeholders, the role of the education department, the role of schools—all must move simultaneously and continuously to realise the nation’s aspiration of achieving the Golden Generation 2045,” he explained.
Anti-Drug Resilient Village
In line with this commitment, Polda Riau has initiated the formation of Anti-Drug Resilient Villages in five regions. It is hoped that these Anti-Drug Resilient Villages can serve as a protective fortress for society from the dangers of drugs down to the village level.
“We have already formed five resilient villages and, God willing, more will be added this week; we will launch other resilient villages that we are carrying out in collaboration with the community,” he added.
On the other hand, Polda Riau continues to commit to law enforcement by arresting drug perpetrators. Throughout 2025 up to the April 2026 period, at least 3,000 drug suspects have been arrested.
“We continue to carry out law enforcement; from 2025 until now, there are 3,000 suspects whom we have arrested. We have carried out various efforts, and we also hope for the media’s role to continue informing the public,” he concluded.
