Riau Police Chief Irjen Herry Heryawan Stresses Importance of Human Solidarity

Riau Police Chief Inspector General of Police Herry Heryawan has stressed that humanitarian duty is not always manifested through law enforcement alone, but also through actions that provide tangible benefits to people’s lives. The message was delivered by Herry whilst attending a social service event involving hundreds of residents at Awal Bros Panam Hospital in Pekanbaru on Friday, 5 June 2026. On the occasion, Herry emphasised the importance of the value of human solidarity in social life. ‘Today we strengthen a very important value, namely human solidarity. The best of people are those who provide benefit to fellow human beings. Therefore, this activity is not just about medical operations, but how to bring back hope for our fellow brothers and sisters,’ he said. According to him, the presence of various parties involved in the social activity shows that cross-sector collaboration remains a major force in helping communities in need. Herry even admitted to having personal experience that made him understand how valuable a quality of life is that is often taken for granted by many people. He recounted a moment when accompanying his father who experienced visual impairment whilst performing worship in the Holy Land. ‘I felt for myself how someone has to carry out activities with limitations because they cannot see well. Therefore, when today there are 310 people getting the opportunity to see the world more clearly again, we are truly presenting hope and happiness for them and their families,’ he explained. Herry assessed that every action carried out with the intention of helping others will have a far greater impact than what is visible on the surface. ‘When someone can see again, they can see their children and grandchildren, can walk more independently, can resume activities, and can enjoy life better. This is the true meaning of service to others,’ he said. In line with this, Chairperson of the Sekar Ayu Jiwanta Foundation, Emi Wiranto, said that collaboration between social institutions, the health sector and the police is proof that care for the community can be realised through concrete steps.
