Riau Police Chief Inspector General Herry Heryawan attended a simultaneous corn planting event led by Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo. In his report to the Police Chief, Inspector General Herry stated an increase in the achievements of corn planting carried out by the Riau Regional Police in the first quarter of 2026. The activity was conducted simultaneously via Zoom Meeting attended by all regional police forces across Indonesia, including Riau’s Polda, which was centred in Sialang Indah Village, Pangkalan Kuras District, Pelalawan Regency, on Saturday 7 March 2026. The Riau Police Chief was accompanied by the Riau Provincial Secretary Syahrial Abdi, Pelalawan Regent H Zukri, Chair of the Riau Farmers Group Association (HKTI) Muhammad Rahul, Chair of the Pelalawan DPRD H Syafrizal, and Pelalawan Police Chief AKBP John Louis Letedara. In his report to the Police Chief, Brigadier General Herry Heryawan said the corn planting activity this time was concentrated on an intercropped oil-palm land spanning 40 hectares. The method is being used given that many oil-palm plantations are entering their replanting period, enabling them to plant corn using the intercropping method as practised by the Central Kalimantan Police. Herry Heryawan said the collaboration mobilised by the Riau Police has generated a potential of 2,000 hectares of intercropped oil-palm land in 2026. “And in this year we are also in Cluster 3 of the Police’s plan in the field of food security, with the qualitative target of meeting the target absorption of corn by Bulog for regional government stockpiles,” he added. Herry reported that in 2025, the Polda Riau–assisted farmers’ groups planted shelled corn on an area of 1,690.37 hectares from a total potential area of 7,355.29 hectares. With the expansion of the cultivated area, he said corn production in 2025 rose. “And this achievement is the main contributor to a 300 percent expansion in the area planted with corn in Riau Province, where in 2024 it stood at only 327 hectares and production in 2025 reached 294.43 tonnes, or an increase of 385 percent from the previous year,” he said.
