Riau Police Chief Appreciates Environment Minister's Visit, Strengthens Synergy to Protect the Environment

The police chief emphasised the importance of synergy and cross-sector collaboration, including the police, in efforts to preserve and conserve the environment. “Once again, we appreciate the Minister’s commitment to building cross-sector collaboration, including with the police, particularly the Riau Regional Police,” he added. “This synergy is very important for us to handle environmental issues in an integrated, systematic, and sustainable manner for a quality living environment for future generations,” he continued. On that occasion, the 1996 Police Academy graduate invited everyone to continue voicing justice for the environment and the living beings within it, including protected wildlife. “Therefore, let us continue to speak for those who cannot speak, voice of the voiceless,” he stated. According to him, protecting the environment is the foundation of security for the future. The Indonesian National Police, as guardians of security, are also obliged to protect the environment. “The environment is the foundation for future security; protecting the environment means protecting life, and protecting life is our mandate as guardians of security,” he said. Environment Minister Appreciates Green Policing. The Minister of Environment, Mohammad Jumhur Hidayat, expressed high appreciation for the progressive steps taken by the Riau Regional Police. He assessed that the Green Policing approach presented had exceeded his expectations. “I listened to the entire presentation, and I feel there is nothing left for me to speechify here. The requirement to become a minister is to be smart, and I feel what happened today will be adopted by me,” Jumhur said. He affirmed that the Green Policing concept developed by the Riau Regional Police is a very good model and worthy of replication nationally. “This is very good. If Green Policing happens everywhere, in every institution, I think the Ministry of Environment is no longer needed. This is extraordinary,” he emphasised. Furthermore, Jumhur conveyed his commitment to encourage the entire concept presented to be implemented concretely in various regions in Indonesia. “I will ensure together with friends in the ministry how what is worked on today can really happen throughout the regions,” he said. He also assessed that the presence of the central government through this visit is a form of respect for the people of Riau, as well as an effort to strengthen attention to environmental issues in the region. “By bringing the Police Chief and all ranks here, this is part of the Republic’s respect for the people of Riau. We want to ensure there is real improvement, including in environmental indices,” he said.
