Riau Police and Malaysian Police Rendezvous Strengthens Maritime Security in Malacca Strait

The meeting was conducted by the Riau Regional Police Marine Unit (Polairud) and Johor Bahru Police Marine Region Two on Monday, 25 May 2026. The bilateral meeting took place in the Gosong Rob Roy waters of the Malacca Strait at coordinates 1°54.52’ N - 102°02.45’ E, approximately 50 miles from Dumai Police Marine Station, with a travel time of 1.5 hours.

The Riau Regional Police delegation was led by Marine Police Unit Director Kombes Pol Apri Fajar Hermanto, accompanied by senior officials. The PDRM delegation was headed by Commander of Marine Region Two, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Hj Noor Azman Bin Hj Jamal.

The agenda included discussions on information exchange regarding prevalent crimes in the Malacca Strait border waters, such as drug smuggling, human trafficking (TPPO), illegal fishing, and other cross-border crimes.

“Both parties agreed to formalise this rendezvous with a joint agreement on information sharing and law enforcement in the Malacca Strait waters,” said Kombes Apri.

In addition to law enforcement, the event featured a Green Policing initiative. Kombes Apri presented durian tree saplings to the PDRM Marine Unit as a symbol of the Riau Police Chief’s “Melindungi Tuah Menjaga Marwah” programme.

“The saplings are expected to grow strong and serve as protectors for the community, just as the synergy between Polri and PDRM must remain robust in safeguarding border waters,” said Kombes Apri.

The event concluded with the signing of a meeting report, gift exchange, and group photos. The Riau Marine Police delegation departed back to Dumai Police Marine Station headquarters at 11:30 WIB and arrived at 13:00 WIB.
