Riau oil workers forced out of work

PEKANBARU, Riau: Local residents have reportedly forced workers of the Joint Operation Agency from PT Bumi Siak Pusako (BSP) and Pertamina Hulu to quite their jobs at the Coastal Plains Pekanbaru (CPP) oil block.

"We are not only terrorized by phone but also threatened at our workplace," Andi, an employee of PT GSA, said on Saturday.

He said he and other workers were forced to stop working at Bandar Serai village, Sungai Apit subdistrict, Siak regency.

Local youths forced the workers to leave their jobs so that they could replace them, Andi said.

"Their reason is that we are not indigenous residents," he said.

Another worker, Narso, said a supervisor at his workplace was even extorted by them for money.

"The youths have always asked us for money to buy liquor," he said. --Antara
