Riau Islands to get new capital

BATAM, Riau Islands: After two years in the pipeline, the Riau
Islands provincial government will finally relocate the
provincial capital from Batam to Tanjung Pinang on Bintan Island
early next year.

The move is in line with the provisions of the Riau Islands
Province Establishment Law (No. 25/2002).

Having relocated the center of administration to Tanjung
Pinang, the city of Batam would be left to focus fully on
business, said Riau Islands Governor Ismeth Abdullah. The
provincial government was still relocating some of its
departments, which process was expected to be completed early
