Batam (ANTARA) - The Riau Islands Regional Police (Polda Kepri) has named a Non-Commissioned Officer, Bripda AS, as a suspect in the alleged assault case at the Non-Commissioned Officers’ barracks against fellow police officers, which resulted in one victim dying. “For now, we have only named one member as a suspect, namely Bripda AS. However, we are still investigating the possibility of involvement by other personnel,” said the Head of the Profession and Security Division (Propam) of Polda Kepri, Commissioner Pol Eddwi Kurniyanto, in Batam on Tuesday. He conveyed that the Riau Islands Police Chief shares in the grief over the incident and emphasised that the case will be processed to completion. “On behalf of the Police Chief, we extend our deepest condolences to the victim’s family. We promise to handle it firmly and I will investigate it thoroughly until we identify all those involved,” he stressed. He explained that the incident took place on Monday night (13/4) around 23:00 WIB at the junior Non-Commissioned Officers’ barracks in a rented simple housing complex (rusunawa). “The victim is a member of the Ditsamapta of Polda Kepri, namely Bripda NS who died, and another victim Bripda JB who is currently undergoing a medical examination,” he said. According to Eddwi, the incident began when the suspect called the two victims on suspicion of a violation for not carrying out kurve (community service) activities. “The two victims were called to a room in the barracks to be questioned about the kurve. At that time, an assault occurred carried out by their senior,” he said. From the initial examination results, he said, the assault was carried out without using tools, but with bare hands. “For witnesses, we have taken statements from eight personnel so far, but the suspect is only one person,” he said. He added that no personal motive between the suspect and the victim has been found so far. “Meanwhile, the witnesses are being secured at Propam, the Internal Security Section (Pengamanan Internal Polri) for further investigation and development. We will then investigate if there are other motives besides the failure to carry out kurve,” said the Propam Head. In addition to the criminal process handled by the General Criminal Investigation Directorate of Polda Kepri, there will also be action under the code of ethics through Propam. “We from Propam will process it under the code of ethics, and for the criminal aspect, we have reported it to Ditreskrimum,” said Eddwi. The victim’s body has been taken to Bhayangkara Hospital since it was found on Monday night (13/4) for an autopsy to determine the cause of death. However, as of this afternoon, there has been no statement from the hospital’s medical doctor. Polda Kepri has also assured that it will provide assistance to the victim’s family. “We will certainly provide financial assistance, and we will handle the victim’s body,” he said.
