Riau Female Student Victim of Stabbing Undergoes Surgery, Condition Stable
A woman with initials F (23), a student at Universitas Islam Negeri Sultan Syarief Kasim (UIN Suska), underwent surgery after being stabbed by a man with initials R (21) whose romantic advances she had rejected. F’s condition is currently stable and she remains in post-operative recovery.
“Her condition is currently in recovery following the operation,” stated Dr Nadia at RSUD Arifin Achmad in Pekanbaru on Friday (27 February 2026).
F underwent surgery on her leg and forehead on Thursday (26 February). Her condition is reported to be stable.
“She is stable and fully conscious, though her communication remains limited,” the doctor added.
Assailant Designated as Suspect
Police have designated the man with initials R (21) as a suspect for stabbing the UIN Suska student F (23). R is currently being held at Pekanbaru Police Headquarters.
Pekanbaru Police Chief Kombes Muharman Arta stated that the investigation into this case has been elevated to Polresta Pekanbaru given the public attention it has garnered.
“The suspect has been transferred and is being detained at Polresta Pekanbaru detention facility,” Kombes Muharman said in Pekanbaru on Friday (27 February 2026).
Muharman revealed that the motive for the stabbing was rooted in a romantic dispute.
“The motive is currently believed to be romantic in nature, based on the suspect’s confession,” he added.
The police chief stated that the suspect had planned the assault in advance. The suspect had prepared a sharp weapon to attack the victim.
“The premeditation is evidenced by the sharp weapon he brought from home, which constitutes a premeditated element,” he explained.
Criminal investigation detectives from Polresta Pekanbaru are currently expediting the case file preparation. Meanwhile, police examination of the victim is on hold pending her full recovery.
The stabbing incident occurred on the second floor of the Faculty of Sharia and Law at UIN Suska on Thursday (26 February) in the morning. The victim was waiting for her thesis defence when she was suddenly stabbed by the perpetrator, who is also a student.
