Riau Police have presented a simple yet meaningful gift to two officers entering retirement. Both received saplings as a symbol of continuing their commitment to preserving and maintaining the environment.

The ceremony, held at the Riau Police Aula on Monday, 25 May 2026, was led by Deputy Riau Police Chief Brigadier General Hengki Haryadi. He urged the three officers to nurture the saplings until they grow large and benefit the surrounding environment.

“Continue to benefit the surrounding environment, just as trees provide benefits for future generations,” said Hengki.

On the occasion, Brigadier General Hengki also conveyed a message from Riau Police Chief Inspector General Herry Heryawan to continue planting goodness in the future. He also relayed the Police Chief’s advice to remain beneficial to others, just as a tree is.

The two retiring officers were Commissioner Juniasti and Assistant Commissioner Suherman Simanjuntak. In addition, Deputy Police Chief presented saplings to Senior Constable Chandra P Sitinjak, who celebrated his birthday today.

The tree-giving initiative was launched by Riau Police Chief Inspector General Herry Heryawan and has become a new tradition at Riau Police. The gesture serves as a reminder for officers to be fair not only to people but also to the environment. He stressed that all police personnel must demonstrate ecological concern amid climate change challenges.

“We may have been fair to people so far, but often forget to be fair to nature. Through this tree-giving, I want to instil the value that environmental care is part of our sacred duty to uphold the institution’s dignity,” Inspector General Herry stated previously.

The Police Chief hopes the saplings will be planted and nurtured by the officers in their local areas, serving as a reminder of a meaningful retirement that benefits future generations.

This action further underscores Riau Police’s commitment to integrating ecological narratives into daily policing duties. The Riau Police Chief aims for all personnel to be pioneers in preserving natural balance, in line with the motto ‘Protecting Prosperity, Safeguarding Dignity’.
