Riau deputy governor's car hit by tree

PEKANBARU, Riau: A tree fell on a car carrying Riau deputy governor Raja Abdul Aziz on Monday, injuring one passenger and the driver.

Raja Abdul Aziz escaped injury, while the head of the Riau Development Planning Board, Zulkifli Saleh, and driver Ujang were treated at Bumi Waras Hospital for their injuries.

Both were sitting in the front of the car when the tree fell on it.

Abdul Aziz and Zulkifli Saleh had arrived at Beranti Airport in Bandarlampung, the capital of Lampung province, and were being driven to downtown Bandarlampung to attend a sports function.

The tree fell on the car as it passed along Jl. Cut Meutia.

Zulkifli has been released from the hospital, whereas Ujang requires further medical treatment for a chest injury. -- Antara
