Riady learns about university education

DAVOS, Switzerland: Among the few businessmen from Indonesia who came to Davos, at least one was also a serious student of university education.

Meeting at a late-night session themed Great Economies Need Great Universities, James T. Riady immersed himself with noted education experts from around the world.

He dutifully punched comments from experts, who hailed from top universities in Europe, the United States and Asia, into his small notebook computer.

The experts, mostly university presidents, looked critically at the challenges of university education in today's world in the World Economic Forum, held from Jan. 25 to Jan. 30 in the Swiss ski resort.

This should be hardly surprising as James, besides heading the huge Lippo Group, is also chairman of Pelita Harapan educational foundation. --JP
