RI workers in Singapore

We were shocked by the report on the torture experience by 14- year old Hartati, from Banyumas, Central Java, a migrant worker in Singapore.

Based on our experience in handling the case of the late Sutarmi Samin from Lampung who died in Singapore, we would like to state that the Indonesian Embassy in Singapore has shown political will in the handling of this case by helping the victim's family in their efforts to obtain justice, providing them with accurate information and accompanying them to court.

In addition to that the Indonesian Embassy in Singapore has also played an active role in handling cases concerning migrant domestic workers in Singapore by helping to establish a "maid matters" service. The service's function is to help solve conflicts between migrant workers and their employers or their agents in Singapore.

Such an active role as the Indonesian Embassy has played has enabled us to learn from the past cases in order to provide further protection for Indonesian migrant workers abroad.
