RI woman held for baby's death

MALAYSIA: A young Indonesian woman was arrested in Malaysia for
allegedly beating her 15-month-old baby to death, the Star
newspaper reported on Friday.

The 24-year-old woman was arrested on Thursday after her
husband, a Malaysian security guard, found the baby dead in his
cot, the Star said. She was charged with murder, which is
punishable by a mandatory death sentence.

The paper said an autopsy found multiple bruises on the boy's
abdomen, face, chest and head. The Star quoted forensic experts
as saying the baby died of a swelling of the brain and abdominal
injuries.

The motive of the killing was not known and police were not
immediately available for comment. --AP
