RI wins team gold, Wynne loses in singles
TEHRAN: National tennis players won the team competition of the Women's Islamic Games on Wednesday to give Indonesia its sixth and final gold of the event.
Ayu Fani Damayanti drubbed Iran's Shahrzab Shahnazari 6-1, 6-1 in the first of the three-match final played on claycourts, but Wynne Prakusya lost to Arghavan Rezai 6-2, 7-6.
Wynne and Ayu were merciless in a 6-0, 6-0 walloping of Arghavan/Shadi Tabatabai for the gold.
The tie, particularly the match between Wynne-Arghavan, was marked by disputed line calls, with the Indonesians protesting the lineswomen and umpire were biased for the host team, Antara news service reported.
In the earlier women's singles final, Wynne also lost to Arghavan 2-6, 6-4, 2-6. Although the women's games was closed to men, the Iranian's father entered the stadium, leading to another protest from the Indonesian contingent.
Indonesia's other golds came in archery, with three top finishes, and karate and tae kwon do with one gold each. -- JP
