RI wants to win SEA Canoe

JAKARTA (JP): Indonesia has prepared 11 canoeists -- eight men and three women -- to compete in the Southeast Asian Canoeing Championships from Nov. 2 to Nov. 5 in Vietnam.

They are being groomed at the Jatiluhur dam in Purwakarta, West Java, and are expected to win the championships. Last year, Indonesia was beaten by Myanmar to finish as runner-up.

"We will perform all out and make up for our defeat by Myanmar last year," coach Yadi Suryadi was quoted by Antara as saying on Monday.

He named Myanmar, Thailand and host Vietnam as tough rivals for the Indonesian canoeists, especially in the Kayak-2 and Canoe-I events. (yan)
