RI, U.S. to promote cooperation
JAKARTA (JP): Coordinating Minister for Industry and Trade Hartarto (center), as well as A.R. Ramly (left), adviser, and Tony Agus Ardie (right), chairman, of the Indonesia-U.S. Committee, briefed last night businessmen on Indonesian-American business meetings to be held in Washington, New York and Chicago next September.
Hartarto and Ramly, who hosted the dinner reception at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, called on the businessmen to take part in the series of business forums which will be held to coincide with the 50th anniversary of Indonesia's independence.
The meetings will also launch a scholastic ambassador program, aimed at educating 16 million American high school students about Indonesia through the distribution of teaching guidelines on the basic facts of Indonesia, to about 7,000 school teachers in the U.S.
The teaching guidelines are being prepared in cooperation with Scholastic Education Inc. of the U.S. and Alwi Dahlan, an Indonesian mass communications scholar.(vin)
