RI, UNDP pledge support for world summit
JAKARTA: The Indonesian government and the UN Development Program signed a project document to support the Preparatory Committee meeting for the World Summit on Sustainable Development on Tuesday.
The signing marked the cooperation between the two parties in preparation for the summit, to be held in Johannesburg, South Africa, from Aug. 26 to Sept. 4.
The ministerial-level preparatory meeting in Bali from May 27 to June 7 will serve as the last opportunity in which to consolidate the visions and agreements between participating countries to be considered for adoption by heads of state at the summit.
During the Bali talks, ministers in charge of environmental and development affairs from the participating countries will draft a document to emphasize the need for global partnership to achieve sustainable development and ways to address main challenges the international community is now facing.
Signing the document on the government's behalf was acting secretary general of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mohammad Jusuf, while UNDP was represented by resident representative Bo Apslund. -- JP
