RI traditional drama at JIS

JAKARTA (JP): Students of the Jakarta International School are scheduled to perform an Indonesian traditional drama entitled Lakshagraha (Pandawa Obong) at their school compound on Friday evening, the school's intercultural director, S. Money, said.

Money said in a statement that the performance constituted an extracurricular project of Indonesian studies at the school.

"Clad in wayang costumes, the traditional drama will be conducted by the expatriate students in English with the aim of helping preserve Indonesian culture," Money said.

The student to portray Kunthi, for example, is from the United States. Prabu Drupada is played by a Taiwan national and Bima by an Indian, Money said.

"The message of the performance is to help stimulate Indonesian students to increasingly appreciate and love their own culture," Money said.

Besides officials from the ministries of national education, tourism and youth affairs and sports, a number of Indonesian students will also be invited to the performance. (hhr)
