RI to send team to World Air Games
JAKARTA (JP): Indonesia will send a team to the World Air Games in Turkey in mid-September.
The Indonesian Aero Sport Federation's (FASI) secretary general, Col. Adi Supranto, said to prepare for the event the federation would hold the Jamboree Air Show (JAS) at Halim Perdanakakusumah Airforce Base, East Jakarta, from July 17 to July 20.
"Indonesia will take part in five aero sport events: aeromodelling, parachuting, paragliding, motorized paragliding and microlight aircraft," Adi was quoted by Antara as saying.
Adi said this World Air Games was the first to be held by the International Aerosport Federation (FAI) and that Indonesia supported FAI's holding the event.
Adi said the JAS '97 was a continuation of the Jakarta Air Show in 1987 and 1994, and the Indonesia Air Show 1996.
"FASI will hold the JAS every two years starting 1997," Adi said.
The minister of tourism, post and telecommunications, Joop Ave, will open the JAS '97 on July 17 at the Haj airfield and at the same time open an exhibition and workshop on aero sport.
JAS '97 will feature a wing walker from Australia, tandem jumping and air aerobatics by foreign and local teams.
"We will invite four tandem jumping experts from Australia and from the army's special forces," Adi said.
Tickets for the JAS '97 cost Rp 1,500 and can be bought from Haj airfield, Halim Perdanakakusumah (lnt)
