RI to send six boxers to Asian Games
JAKARTA (JP): The Indonesian Amateur Boxing Association will send six boxers to the 13th Asian Games in Bangkok in December next year.
The boxers are La Paene Masara (pinweight), Hermensen Ballo (flyweight), Dufri Masihor (bantamweight), Wilpare Jamhur (lightweight), Bara Gomies (welterweight) and Albert Papilaya (middleweight).
Didit Soedijoto, the association's secretary-general, said Saturday that before the boxers compete in the Asian Games, they will undergo training in February.
"We are hoping to get the funds for the training from the National Sports Council (KONI) and PT Gajah Tunggal, a tire producer," Didit said as quoted by Kompas.
Didit added that the six boxers were proposed by the association to KONI. "We have also proposed a number of boxers as sparring partners to KONI. We will know of the approval next Thursday."
Didit also said that Hermensen, Wipare, Bara and Albert are included among the seven boxers to Seoul for the South Korean boxing championships, from Dec. 17 to Dec. 21.
The others are Damianus Yordan, Martin Sihombing and Boy Gasperz.
Meanwhile, the Indonesian Fencing Association has called on the 25 association branches to prepare their fencers for the Games.
Eman Sumusi, the association's secretary-general, said Saturday that the fencers named by the regions would be trained before a team is formed.
"We want potential fencers for the Asian Games. We will form a team after the evaluation of the fencers' training," Eman said. (lnt)
