RI to send police officers to S'pore

JAKARTA: The National Police will start sending officers to Singapore next year for training in detective work as a part of a cooperation agreement with the Singapore Police.

National Police spokesman Insp. Gen. Aryanto Boedihardjo said on Wednesday that the National Police would also invite Singaporean police officers to spend some time at the police training center in Semarang, Central Java.

"We hope that the current cooperation will strengthen relations between the two countries, especially in combating terrorism and other transnational crimes," Aryanto said after a meeting with Singapore's visiting deputy prime minister, S. Jayakumar.

Jayakumar, accompanied by Singaporean Ambassador to Indonesia Edward Lee, visited National Police Headquarters to congratulate the police on their successful capture of Azahari bin Husin, Indonesia's most wanted terrorist, and to discuss ways of improving coordination between the two countries in the fight against terrorism. -- JP
