RI to open Shaolin martial arts schools

SEMARANG, Central Java: The well-renowned Shaolin school of martial arts will open three branches in Indonesia following an agreement with the head school in China, an official of the Indonesian Wushu Association said on Sunday.

"The schools will be opened in Bandung, Jakarta and Medan, as these cities are better prepared," said association chairman Mediteransyah.

"Currently, a delegation from Shaolin is inspecting the stage of preparation in those cities."

Mediteransyah said the schools would follow an Indonesian curriculum with additional subjects in Mandarin and wushu martial arts.

"These schools will be open to the general public, as we do not expect the students to be wushu athletes. We are planning to enroll some 4,000 students.

"With Shaolin martial arts schools in Indonesia, we do not have to send our athletes to China to improve their skills," he said. -Antara
