RI to host OPEC meet

JAKARTA (JP): Indonesia will host the 97th ministerial conference of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) in Bali from Nov. 21 to 23.

"The meeting will discuss two main issues, replacing secretary general Subroto, whose second term ended in June, and determining a new quota system for the first quarter of next year," Minister of Mines and Energy I.B. Sudjana said in a recent hearing with Commission VI of the House of Representatives (DPR).

The secretary general post is currently held by OPEC's president, Abdullah al-Badri of Libya.

"Hosting the conference is a rare but important moment for Indonesia, considering that OPEC usually holds its conferences in Geneva," he said.
