RI to host information seminar

JAKARTA: Seven foreign speakers are expected to address an
international seminar on the right to information at the House of
Representatives (DPR) on Friday.

The seven speakers are Mukelani Dimba of South Africa, Venkat
Iyer of Britain, Rick Snell of Australia, Nakorn Serirak of
Thailand, Kamayani Swami of India, Vince Lazatin of the
Philippines and Toby Mendell of Canada.

House deputy speaker Muhaimin Iskandar is slated to give the
keynote speech.

Organizing committee chairman Wiwiek Awiyati, from the
Indonesian Center for Environmental Law (ICEL), said the input
and ideas discussed during the seminar could help legislators
create a good freedom of information law.

State Minister for Communications and Information Syamsul
Mu'arif is also scheduled to speak at the seminar along with
journalists and non-governmental organization activists. -- JP
