RI to get $50m ADB loan
MANILA (AFP): The Asian Development Bank (ADB) said Friday
that it had approved a 50 million-dollar loan to Indonesia to
improve coastal and marine resource management.
Indonesia is in the process of decentralizing the management
of natural resources from the national government to local
governments, the Manila-based ADB said in a statement.
Loan proceeds will help local governments take over the
management of coastal and marine resources.
Fifty small-scale natural resource management schemes will be
funded under the project. These will include the rehabilitation
of damaged fish habitats such as mangroves, coral reefs and sea
grass, control of pollution, siltation and erosion and the
development of alternative livelihoods for small-scale fishermen.
The loan will be accompanied by a 775,000-dollar technical
assistance grant, the ADB said.
