RI to file complaint at WTO

JAKARTA (JP): The Indonesian Polyester Fiber Producers will file a complaint with the World Trade Organization (WTO) against antidumping measures imposed on their products by the European Commission.

The association of the Indonesian Synthetic Fibermakers (APSyFI) said in a statement on Monday that its members and the director general of international trade industries were still preparing the Indonesian submission for the Council of Trade in Goods/Committee on Antidumping Practices of the WTO.

Early this month, the general council of the European Commission imposed antidumping duties of between 8.4 percent and 15.8 percent against Indonesian polyester staple fiber producers.

The government of Turkey has also imposed antidumping duties of between 6.2 percent and 37.4 percent against Indonesian synthetic fibermakers, who have never exported to the country.

The association said it requested informal bilateral negotiation with Turkey to settle the problem. The negotiation is scheduled to be held in September, it said. (hen)
