RI-S'pore senior officials to meet

INDONESIA: Indonesia and Singapore are scheduled to hold a one- day meeting of senior officials in Singapore on Thursday to discuss various bilateral issues, including the extradition treaty and investments.

The Indonesian delegation members, Director General for External Economic Relations Makarim Wibisono and Asia Pacific Director Yusbar Djamil, left for Singapore on Wednesday afternoon.

The meeting was originally scheduled for late last year, but it could not be held due to the ups and downs in relations between the two countries, following remarks made by former president Abdurrahman Wahid, who accused Singapore of being insensitive and selfish.

However, the visit by President Megawati Soekarnoputri to Singapore in August paved the way for better relations.

Singapore's foreign ministry said the meeting was aimed at building closer bilateral relations. --JP
