RI shuttlers flop in finals

JAKARTA: Indonesian men's doubles pair Candra Wijaya and Sigit
Budiarto and mixed doubles duo Nova Widianto and Lilyana Natsir
failed in their respective final matches at the US$250,000 Saiqi
Invitational World Cup 2005 in Yiyang, China, on Sunday.

Candra and Sigit lost to Fu Haifeng and Cai Yun of China 21-
11, 21-18, while world champions Nova and Lilyana were beaten 21-
19, 21-10 by Xie Zhongbo and Zhang Yawen.

The championship used a new scoring system introduced by the
International Badminton Federation, with matches being played in
rally points.

"In the match with rally points, they looked better than us.
We lacked preparation and needed adjustment to the new scoring
system," Nova was quoted by Antara as saying. -JP
