RI sends juniors to World C'ships

JAKARTA (JP): Ten Indonesian junior golfers, including one girl, will compete in the World Golf Junior Championships on four golf courses in San Diego, California, from July 18 to July 21.

The 10 golfers are Immanuel Lambok Ambarita and Zulharmen Yosis Tabusala in the 13 to 14-year-old division, Tamba Harun Ambarita and Charles Rizky Adi Kristian in the 11 to 12-year-old group, Zebadiah Alexander Solomon, Putra Abhinawa Sahari, Andy Christiawan Sjaichudin and Williamn Sjaichudin in the 9 to 10- year-old class, Juandra Putera Hendarwo in the 6 to 8-year-old division and Cicilla Chudivan in the girls 11 to 12-year-old group.

Team manager Charles Louis Pellupessy and the Indonesian Golf Association (PGI) Jakarta chapter official in charge of junior golf development, Budhi Santoso, told Antara on Saturday that the aim was to earn positions in the world rankings.

"If they can reach the top 20 in a major tournament which has 800 golfers from 50 countries competing, then they have made a great achievement," he said.

Pellupessy said Indonesia would rely on Charles and Tamba and also Zebadiah. In the girls event, Indonesia is sending only one golfer as the ongoing results is far beyond other countries.

"Based on my experience, a girl golfer has lost her peak when she is at the age of 14," he said, adding that the participants would leave the country on July 13. (yan)
