RI researchers, students to Japan

JAKARTA: A total of 104 Indonesian scholars departed for Japan on Thursday to continue their studies and research in various fields.

The Information and Cultural Office at the Japanese Embassy here said in a release that 68 of the scholars, mostly researchers, were recipients of Japanese government scholarships. The remaining scholars received Indonesian government scholarships, which were funded by Japan's Overseas Development Assistance loan.

The Japanese Embassy here is now recruiting research students to study in Japan beginning in April 2000. Applicants must be government officials who were born on or after April 2, 1965. Scholarships for undergraduates, students in technology colleges and students in professional training schools also are being offered beginning on June 1. (amd)
