RI reaffirms commitment to energy transition at GETES in London
“For Indonesia, the upcoming transformation must be carried out responsibly. We are ensuring that every developmental step adheres to strict environmental standards, keeping it aligned with our national climate commitments,” Hidayat said in a statement confirmed here in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Speaking at the High-Level Ministerial and CEO Dialogue at GETES 2026 on Tuesday (June 23), Hidayat explained that as one of the world’s largest megadiverse nations, Indonesia plays a crucial role in mitigating global climate change.
He emphasised the country’s vast tropical rainforests, extensive peatlands, and widespread mangrove ecosystems serve as vital pillars in maintaining the Earth’s climate balance.

Therefore, Indonesia is committed to continuously maintaining harmony between economic acceleration, the energy transition, and natural resource protection as the core foundation of sustainable development.
The policy direction pursued by the Indonesian government aligns with the call championed by the United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
Addressing world leaders and energy sector CEOs, Guterres underscored the critical urgency of accelerating a global energy transition that is just, inclusive, and leaves no country behind.
Guterres reminded the forum that the true essence of energy transition lies in its ability to deliver tangible positive impacts, create new jobs, and uphold humanitarian values for communities worldwide.

In response to the call, Hidayat reaffirmed Indonesia’s readiness to implement the framework through an integrated approach that places environmental sustainability as a core component.
“It is our priority to ensure the direction of our development policy remains integrated with strong environmental guidelines,” he said.
This approach serves as the foundation for Indonesia to maintain consistency between economic growth and environmental conservation targets.
At the forum, Indonesia also invited all global partners to bolster just and transparent multilateral cooperation.
