SINGAPORE: A huge earthquake off the Indonesian island of Sumatra could be felt in parts of Singapore on early Tuesday, the local meteorological services division said.
The tremors were felt in parts of the island around 10 minutes after midnight (11:10 p.m.), it said in a statement.
Local newspaper reported on Tuesday residents in several areas fled from their high-rise apartment homes after feeling the tremors.
"Several hundred residents just made their way to the ground level just slightly after midnight," Pritpal Singh was quoted as saying by the Today newspaper.
"I felt my block was shaking and we were just not sure what was happening," he said. -- AFP
