RI President Scheduled to Attend Two May Day 2026 Events
Tangerang Regency (ANTARA) - President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to attend two series of events to commemorate Labour Day/May Day on 1 May 2026 at the National Monument in Jakarta and in Nganjuk, East Java. “Two weeks ago, I was called by the President of the Republic of Indonesia to discuss May Day (Labour Day), and it was confirmed that President Prabowo Subianto will be at Monas to celebrate May Day with 200,000 workers at Monas at 08:00 WIB. He will deliver a state speech,” said the President of the All-Indonesian Confederation of Workers’ Unions (KSPSI), Andi Gani Nena Wea, after the Labour Halalbihalal with National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo in Tangerang on Tuesday. He revealed that after the series of events at Monas in Jakarta, the President, along with 115 leaders of confederations and federations across Indonesia, will head to Nganjuk for the inauguration of the Ibu Marsinah Museum as a monument to the workers’ struggle. “We, together with the President, the National Police Chief, and all labour leaders—around 115 confederations and federations across Indonesia—will attend the inauguration of the Ibu Marsinah Museum in Nganjuk,” he said. According to him, this year’s May Day event is a commemoration within the series of struggles to safeguard various regulations related to workers’ welfare and the revival of industry in Indonesia across various sectors. Therefore, he said, on that momentum, his side together with the government will discuss further regarding welfare and policies that support workers in Indonesia. “Yesterday, I met with several state officials to discuss several matters after the President’s return from Russia. He will directly announce regarding the improvement of workers’ welfare and his policies, which will be announced after returning from his overseas visit,” he explained. On that occasion, KSPSI also expressed appreciation to the Indonesian National Police for helping to resolve three major layoff (PHK) cases in the country. Those cases are the police successfully assisted the PHK at PT Tarumartani Yogyakarta, which went viral some time ago. Then, the mass layoffs at PT Daicheng in Bekasi, and both were resolved. “And also PT Multi Strada Bekasi, which was also resolved because the National Police Chief, together with the Labour Desk, provided extraordinary attention and support, until the labour issues could be resolved,” he said.
