RI-Poland economic ties

JAKARTA (JP): The trade between Indonesia and Poland rose last year with businessmen and officials of both countries exchanging more visits.

According to a bulletin published by the Polish Embassy in Jakarta, exports to Poland in the first three quarters of 1996 reached US$90.8 million, up $23.6 million. Imports from Poland were to $42.7 million, up $4.7 million.

Indonesian exports to Poland included telecommunication equipment, electrical machinery, paper products, footwear, tea, coffee, chemical products, fabrics and natural rubber.

Imports from Poland included steel products, machinery and equipment, powdered milk, pulp and paper waste.

Poland sent two economic and official missions to Indonesia last year. One was headed by Prime Minister Wlodozimierz Cimioszewicz.

Indonesia's economic and official missions to Poland last year included one headed by Minister of Mines and Energy I.B. Sudjana and another by the chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Aburizal Bakrie. (jsk)
