JAKARTA (JP): Papua New Guinea and Indonesia have agreed to maintain traditional bilateral trade between their peoples living in the border area, the Foreign Ministry's Director for Political Affairs Izhar Ibrahim said.

"Both governments plan to establish trade posts in the border area, to facilitate the peoples' business dealings," Izhar told Antara in Jayapura over the weekend, after attending a Joint Border Committee meeting in Port Moresby.

Izhar, deputy leader of the Indonesian delegation to the meeting, said that the traditional trading under a barter system in the area has been practiced for a long time.

He added that the barter system continues due to the absence of money changers.(kod)
