RI pianist to perform in Norway

JAKARTA (JP): Indonesian pianist Kuei Pin Yeo will play a number of solo piano compositions by Indonesian Mochtar Embut today at the Festspillene i Bergen in Bergen, Norway.

This will be the first time that Embut's compositions have been presented at an eminent music festival. It will be attended by such big names in the world of music as Kiri Te Kanawa.

Kuei, the first Indonesian to obtain a doctorate in music from the Manhattan School of Music, will also play compositions by Edward Grieg of Norway as well as Claude Debussy and Chopin of France.

Kuei will continue her tour at Voss church, in Voss, Norway to commemorate 50 years of Indonesian Independence.

The founder of the Yayasan Music Jakarta, Kuei was labeled by The New York Times as a responsive player who has perfect and firm technique. She has won international piano competitions, including the Harold Bauer Award, the Manhattan School of Music Concerto Competition and the Gina Bachauer International Competition. She won a scholarship at the American Scholarship competition to study at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria. (als)
