JAKARTA (JP): Henky Lasut and Eddy Manoppo of Indonesia are proving themselves the best pair after earning the highest score at the 10th Cap Volmac 16 World top pairs championships at the Des Indes Hotel, Den Haag, Netherlands.
The Indonesians collected 195 Victory Points after winning the first three sessions on Thursday, to lead French pair of Chemia and Croniex and the host team of Muller and de Boer by just a mere point.
Lasut and Manoppo got off to a flying start by routing fellow Asians Fu and Wang of China 84-16. The Indonesian duo then beat Italy's Buratti and Lanzarotti 60-40 in the second session, before completing a hat trick with a close 51-49 win over Gabriel Chagas and Lambardi of Brazil.
Lasut and Manoppo were the Indonesian trump cards in its triumph in the Far East Bridge Federation championships in July last year. Three months later, they spearheaded the Indonesian team to reach the semifinals of the Bermuda Bowl World Championships.
A total of 16 couples are participating in the four-day invitational tournament which will wind up on Sunday.
For the first time in the prestigious tournament's history, Asia is represented by two countries, Indonesia and China. (05)
