RI officials meet with CGI in Tokyo

TOKYO (Reuter): Senior officials from Indonesia are in Japan to attend a two-day meeting in Tokyo hosted by the World Bank to set an amount for loans to that country, an Indonesian embassy spokeswoman said yesterday.

The Consultative Group on Indonesia (CGI), a grouping of donor nations and financial institutions led by the World Bank, is due to meet in Tokyo on July 16 and 17.

There will be 19 officials from Indonesia at the meeting, including central bank Governor Soedradjad Djiwandono, Finance Minister Saleh Afiff and National Development Planning Minister Ginandjar Kartasasmita, the spokeswoman said.

Widjojo Nitisastro, an adviser on economic matters to Indonesia's President Soeharto, is also to attend the meeting, she said.

An official in Tokyo of the central bank, Bank Indonesia, said officials from the central bank were at the Bank of Japan (BOJ) on Monday. The BOJ was not immediately able to confirm this.

A spokesman for Japan's Ministry of Finance (MOF) said Afiff paid a courtesy call on Finance Minister Hiroshi Mitsuzuka last week and there were no plans this week for any meetings with Indonesian officials.
