SURABAYA: Director General of Islam Affairs and Haj Pilgrimage
Taufik Kamil said here on Monday that the government planned to
build two haj dormitories to temporarily accommodate haj pilgrims
from Indonesia in Saudi Arabia.
"We've prepared the plan and established a consortium in
charge of studying the possibility of building the facilities and
of processing licensing from the Saudi government," he said
during a visit to the haj dormitory in Surabaya.
Taufik, who is also chairman of the central committee for the
haj pilgrimage, said that the two dormitories will be built in
Mispala and Ummul Quro, respectively 900 meters and 1,000 meters
away from the Masjidil Haram Mosque.
The two dormitories were designed to have a combined capacity
for 150,000 people, he said.
"The establishment of the dormitories in Saudi Arabia is
expected to help contain complaints about accommodation," he
said.
Taufik explained that the study had been conducted by a Saudi
conglomerate specializing in the property business with the help
of national businessman Fadel Muhammad, who acted as middleman.
Taufik said that the dormitories would be equipped with a
hall, a clinic, a mosque and a supermarket. -- Antara
