RI, M'sia discuss joint border patrol

MANADO: Indonesia and Malaysia discussed, in the 57th Staff Planning Committee (SPC) meeting, cooperating in a joint patrol of both countries' borders, to effectively decrease border violations and cross-border crimes.

Indonesian Military spokesman Col. D.J. Nuchrowy said that the three-day meeting, which will end on Oct. 14, agreed that the cooperation would include joint exercises in ground, sea and air defense systems, and subsequently joint patrols along the borders.

He added that joint exercises and patrols -- which would be carried out every six months -- would be very useful in enhancing the capabilities of both troops in securing their respective borders. -- Antara
