RI motorcycle sales up 32%

JAKARTA: Indonesia's motorcycle sales rose 32 percent in August
from the same month a year earlier, according to PT Astra
International, Indonesia's biggest auto distributor.

Total sales of motorcycles, including scooters and sports
bikes, last month rose to 356,327 units from 270,894 the year
before, Astra said in a statement, citing figures from the
Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries.

Jakarta-based Astra sold 189,822 units of cubs and sports
bikes last month, a quarter more than the 152,305 units it sold
in August last year, the company said.

Sales of motorcycles from January through August in Indonesia
rose 41 percent from a year ago to 2.52 million units. Astra said
its motorcycle sales rose 31 percent on year to 1.35 million
units in the eight-month period. -- AP
