RI, Malaysia to sign MOU
JAKARTA: Indonesia and Malaysia will sign in the near future a much-awaited Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the employment of Indonesian migrant workers in the neighboring country, Minister of Manpower and Tranmigration Jacob Newa Wea says.
"The discussions on the draft MOU will certainly take time as it must be approved by the Malaysian parliament," he said Sunday on the sidelines of a party to celebrate the 26th anniversary of PT Jamsostek, the state labor insurance company.
Jacob was optimistic that the MOU, the contents of which had been agreed upon by the two countries, would be signed in the near future.
"Under the MOU, the wages and the protection of Indonesian workers in Malaysia will be dealt with transparently," he said in the company of PT. Jamsostek's President Achmad Djunaidi.
According to Jacob, the discussions on the MOU had lasted more than one year because of disagreements on four crucial points, including whether the recruitment of Indonesian migrant workers should be undertaken by Indonesian labor export agencies or companies directly appointed by Malaysia. --Antara
