RI, Malaysia firms tie up

JAKARTA (JP): A consortium of a local and a foreign company is planning to undertake a water treatment project in Padang, West Java, in cooperation with the city's water company.

PT Bina Citra Nusantara and Malaysia's Puncak Niaga Sdn Bhd signed an agreement over the weekend to develop the project.

Bina Citra president Rusmazar Ruzuar said, "The consortium agreed to build several water treatment plants and 100,000 additional water connections in Padang."

The first phase of the project would start in six months with the construction of a water treatment plant operating at 500 liters a second, he said.

The first phase was expected to be completed in 1999, before the consortium would start building a second water treatment plant with equal capacity, he said. (02)
