RI maids flee bosses
KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP): Some 15,209 Indonesian maids have
run away from their employers in Malaysia in the past two years,
the Immigration Department said Saturday.
Some left because they could not tolerate the long working
hours, some were involved in fraud, some could not work with
employers of a different religion, and others stole from their
employers, said the department's director-general, Aseh Che Mat,
the national news agency Bernama reported.
The reasons were culled from reports by employers who have to
explain how they lost the last maid if they want to request
another one.
Once a maid runs away, the employer reports it and the
immigration department cancels her visa and work permit.
