RI maid suing HK employer: Report
HONG KONG: An Indonesian maid is suing her former Hong Kong employer for allegedly beating and forcing her to work 21 hours a day without pay, a newspaper reported on Saturday.
Sulistyoningsih Faridha filed court papers on Friday to seek unspecified damages from Karen Mak, according to the South China Morning Post.
Sulistyoningsih alleged in the documents that Mak repeatedly pinched, scratched and assaulted her while she was working for Mak in 2002.
The domestic helper claimed that she was forced to work without pay or holidays for four months before she eventually fled the flat by climbing down a drain pipe after Mak allegedly hit her with a wooden ruler, the newspaper said.
Sulistyoningsih reported to police and was hospitalized with cuts and bruises to her head following her escape, the report said.
The maid said in the papers that she worked every day from 6:30 a.m. to 4 a.m. and was told to sleep on the kitchen floor. She said she survived on two packets of instant noodles a day.
