RI maid forced to drink bleach

KUALA LUMPUR (AFP): Malaysian police have arrested a housewife
who allegedly forced her Indonesian maid to drink bleach after
beating and scalding her, Bernama news agency said on Thursday.

Hakem Ibrahim, police chief at Sibu in the eastern state of
Sarawak, said the 26-year-old housewife was arrested Wednesday on
suspicion of abusing her maid for the past four months.

He said the woman was also being investigated for possible
attempted murder after forcing the 21-year-old maid to drink
Clorox mixed with Milo, a local chocolate drink.

Hakem said the maid was threatened with death if she refused
to drink.

The woman and her husband later took the maid to hospital
where the husband told staff she had tried to commit suicide. But
authorities called police after discovering numerous scars and
cuts on her body.

Hakem said the housewife started to abuse her maid after
finding she had allegedly tried to cane the couple's children.
