RI maid falls to her death in S'pore
SINGAPORE: An Indonesian maid fell to her death from a high-rise condominium in Singapore, police said on Monday.
Police said the woman, in her 20s, fell from the high-rise flat where she had been working at midday on Saturday. The case was being investigated as an "unnatural death".
Nearly 100 Indonesian maids have died while working in the city-state since 1997, according to the Indonesian embassy in Singapore. Most fell from high-rise apartments while trying to clean windows or hang up laundry.
Suicide is the next most common form of death, with exploitation of maids a frequent occurrence in Singapore as it is in other parts of Asia.
Another Indonesian maid survived a fall from the third storey of a Singapore apartment block this month. The 26-year-old woman was believed to have been cleaning windows when she fell from the apartment, escaping with broken arms and a knee, local media reported. --AFP
