RI July vehicle sales down 10%

JAKARTA: Sales of new vehicles in Indonesia fell 10% in July
to 38,481 from 42,769 in June, the Indonesian car assemblers'
association, Gaikindo, said on Friday.

The association didn't provide an explanation for the fall in
vehicle sales in the domestic market, but analysts said consumers
may have delayed their plan to buy a car as they await the
release of new models in September.

Gaikindo said market leader Astra International sold 15,236
new vehicles in the local market in July, down 21% from 19,317 in
June.

Singapore's Jardine Cycle & Carriage Ltd. owns a 41.9% stake
in Astra. -- DJ
